Laurie London - Signed Book Giveaway & Author Interveiw

Author Interview With Laurie London
Author of the  Sweetblood Series.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I write the Sweetblood series from my home near Seattle, where I live with my husband, two kids, and a variety of animals.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I’ve always loved writing, but it wasn’t until my sister encouraged me to go to a writers’ convention with her that I got serious about it.

What surprised you the most about the writing/publishing process?

That it happened quickly for me. Many people write seriously for years before getting published. For me, I found an agent and an editor in about 18 months.

How do you develop your plots and characters? Do you use any set formula?

Sometimes I start with the story conflict where I imagine a pivotal scene in my head, which always includes the setting. Other times, I start with a particular character and build the story around him. It just depends on what feels right for that story. I go with my gut most of the time.

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?

When a reader gets lost in a story and imagines herself as one of the characters, that’s the hallmark of great writing. I try to please me, the reader, when I write.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I’m just wrapping up the revisions on Seduced By Blood, the fourth book in the Sweetblood series. It’s Santiago and Roxy’s story.

In Twitter Fashion use 140 characters or less, sum Tempted by Blood for us.

A man on the edge meets a woman who will either push him over or save him from himself.

How did you come up with a story that was such a whirl wind of events?

I knew I wanted to write Jackson’s story next. Since he can be both a charmer and a screw up, I knew I wanted to play off both of those characteristics in his book. Because the villain has a very clear agenda, the Guardians face a lot of trouble.

How long did it take you to write it, and did you have any writer’s block along the way?

I’d say it took me 3-4 months to write. No, I didn’t have writer’s block. I had almost the opposite problem—too many choices. If this one event happens, then this, this, and this happen. But if a different event happens, then that, that and that happen. It’s difficult to decide what avenue to take.

Will we be seeing a following book to this stories?

Yes, book 4, Seduced By Blood, comes out in late July.

How did you come up with the character Arianna Wells?

I knew she’d be the perfect foil for Jackson. She’s not taken in by his charm, in fact, she’s put off by it at first. I had to figure out why and that’s how I came up with the backstory about her father. And then came her car. I had a fun time with that crazy car of hers! It was a shock to me that it played a big role in that pivotal car chase scene.

I always must ask, If you could pick one actor to portray Jackson Foss on the big screen who would it be and why?

Although one of my inspirations was model Tommy Dunn, for an actor I’d pick Hugh Jackman when he looks like this. http://www.thehunkies.com/hugh-jackman-2/

Was there anything you find particularly challenging when writing this book?

Keeping all the plotlines and details consistent from book to book.

What were your feelings when you first saw the cover of your finished book?

I loved it! It’s hot, sexy and just a little big dangerous.

I'm interested in reading this book. The Twitter Fashion summary makes me curious as to the hero and the kind of heroine who will get under his skin. I do agree that a great story is one when I can get lost in it and the characters become real.
