Jennifer Estep - Guest Post & Giveaway

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody’s head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.

But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I’m determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why — especially since I should have been the one who died …

Greetings and salutations! First of all, I want to say thanks to Melissa for having me on the blog again today. Thanks so much, Melissa!

I write the Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series for Kensington. The books focus on Gwen Frost, a 17-year-old Gypsy girl who has the gift of psychometry, or the ability to know an object’s history just by touching it. After a serious freak-out with her magic, Gwen is shipped off to Mythos Academy, a school for the descendants of ancient warriors like Spartans, Valkyries, Amazons, and more.

Touch of Frost, the first book in the series, will be published on July 26. First Frost, a prequel e-story to the series, is available now. The second book in the series, Kiss of Frost, will hit shelves on Nov. 29.

So today, I thought I would let my heroine Gwen tell you a little bit about the Mythos Academy series in her own words:

JE: So Gwen, why don’t you tell folks a little about yourself and what happens to you in Touch of Frost?

Gwen: If I must. *Sighs.* My name is Gwen Frost, and I’m a 17-year-old Gypsy girl who has the gift of psychometry, or the ability to know an object’s history just by touching it. After a serious freak-out with my magic, I get shipped off to Mythos Academy, a school for the descendants of ancient warriors like Spartans, Valkyries, Amazons, and more.
I’m getting used to going to a new school and trying to figure out how I fit in with the other warrior whiz kids, as I call them. I don’t think that I really belong at Mythos Academy, but when Jasmine Ashton, a girl in my class, is murdered in the Library of Antiquities and I get attacked as well, I decide to use my psychometry magic to figure out who killed Jasmine and why. I’m a little nosy that way. Okay, okay, a lot nosy that way. My psychometry magic lets me know people’s deepest darkest secrets, so it shouldn’t be too hard for me to figure out what really happened to Jasmine.

JE: Investigating a murder? It sounds like you get into a lot of trouble in the book.

Gwen: That’s a freaking understatement. Not only are there Reapers of Chaos, some seriously bad guys, lurking around on the Mythos campus, but there are also nasty mythological monsters like Nemean prowlers as well. Prowlers are like black panthers, only bigger – and with much, much bigger teeth and claws. *Shivers.*

JE: But you have some help along the way, don’t you?

Gwen: Daphne Cruz, a Valkyrie, helps me out, along with Carson Callahan, a bank geek who’s also a Celt. And then there’s Logan Quin … *smiles dreamily*

JE: Oh, yes. What about that cute Spartan guy, Logan Quinn? What’s going on with the two of you?

Gwen: I have no idea. Logan always seems to be around whenever I’m in trouble, but I have no idea how he really feels about me. I know how I feel about him, though.

JE: And how is that?

Gwen: *Blushes furiously.* Let’s just say that the Spartan is as cute as he is deadly.

JE: Interesting. What else happens in the book?

Gwen: Well, it takes a while, but I get the answers to some of my burning questions – like why I’m at Mythos Academy in the first place and where my magic really comes from. My head is still kind of spinning from everything that’s happened so far. But I’m starting to think that maybe I can be a real warrior after all. We’ll see.

JE: So how would you sum up your adventures in Touch of Frost? What can readers expect in the book?

Gwen: I would tell folks that they are in for myths, monsters, magic, and mean girls.

JE: Thanks for talking to us, Gwen.

Gwen: Anytime. Happy reading, everyone! ;-)
