Jacquelyn Frank - Author Interview & Book Giveaway

Nightwalker (The World of Nightwalkers #5)
by Jacquelyn Frank
From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes the final chapter in the Nightwalkers saga! As the momentous showdown with a powerful demon unfolds, a passionate encounter breaks the ultimate taboo.

Kamen is a Bodywalker, an ancient soul reborn in one human host after another. He’s also a prisoner. For it was Kamen who released Apep, the deadly god who threatens the existence of their world. To atone for this grievous error, Kamen accepts an urgent mission: to convince the other nations of the Nightwalkers to set aside their centuries-old conflicts and band together. If he fails, all will be lost. And no tribe presents a greater challenge than the Wraiths, the spectral beings who are feared and despised for their lethal deathtouch.

Kamen makes first contact with a stunning, ghostly pale beauty named Geneviève. Part Wraith and part human, scorned as a half-breed, Viève shares the hunger for redemption—and for connection. Her scintillating touch holds the kiss of death, and yet it makes Kamen feel more alive than ever. Soon his lips are pressed against hers, sending Viève into fits of desire and forging a bond that breaches the divide between them. Now they must unite all the Nightwalkers—from Vampire and Shadowdweller to Djynns—and quickly—for Apep is ready for war.

Author Interview
With
Jacquelyn Frank

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Not much to tell I’m afraid. I work, I eat, I sleep…then do it all over again! I rescue bottle baby kittens during kitten season which tends to run from April through October. Right now I have a full house! I have a foster daughter who is more like a daughter to me. I’m single…a Pisces…and I like long walks on the…oh wait. Wrong spot for that! ;)
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated? What inspired you to write your first book?
I was thirteen years old and was reading teen romances at the time. I was so frustrated by them (I did;t realize it was the lack of sex that was making me feel so unsatisfied with them, hehehe) that I pitched a fit. My stepmother said to me…why don’t you write one yourself? I said, “I don’t have a typewriter.” (dating myself) She went into her bedroom then came into mine and plunked a typewriter down on my desk. “There,” she said. “Now you have no more excuses.” So I wrote. It was a painfully terrible novel, but my mother read it all the same! She is a good egg.
What surprised you the most about the writing/publishing process?
Well, that it was so easy for me to get into it. I thought it would be terrible hard…and as I understand it it is for most people, but I sort of fell into it through a back door. I entered a contest and was one of the finalists. And editor saw the work and called me, soliciting my work.
How do you develop your plots and characters? Do you use any set formula?
I don’t have a formula. I fly by the seat of my pants. I write and the characters just take life on the page. So does the plot.
What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?
Being as real and efficient as possible. Making the audience connect with the characters. There’s nothing worse than an annoying character. That is, unless they’re supposed to be annoying. :)
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Not really. I’m blessed with the fact that it comes relatively easy. The only challenges I have are memory based (remembering what color the heroine’s eyes are etc.) and staying awake when writing after taking my medication!
What books have most influenced your life?
Pride and Prejudice. Shakespeare (any just about). Other classics.
If you had to choose which writer would you consider a mentor?
Jane Austen.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I like Kresely Cole a lot and Emma Holly. They aren’t exactly new but I like them.
Can you share a little of your current work/projects with us?
Right now I’m working on a magic fantasy series. It’s basically part historical and part fantasy. IT takes place in a fictional world where magic is an every day thing.
In Twitter Fashion use 140 characters or less, sum your book for us.
An exciting end to the NIGHTWALKER series!
How did you come up with a story that was such a whirlwind of events?
I knew I had to satisfy a lot of people’s curiosity and expectations and do it in an efficient style. The story just built itself from there.
How long did it take you to write it, and did you have any writer’s block along the way?
It took me about three weeks to write it. And no writer’s block :) Thank goodness.
Will we be seeing a following book to this stories?
This is the last in the series.
How did you come up with the main character?
I came up with him in the first novel and did't expect I would ever write about him, but he rather took on a life of his own and thought he might make an interesting redemption hero.
I always must ask, If you could pick an actor to portray your Two main characters on the big screen who would it be and why?
Gerard Butler maybe, because he could walk that edge of having been bad but becoming good. And I think Reese Witherspoon because she’s small and delicate but can portray strength.
Was there anything you find particularly challenging when writing this book?
Just trying to satisfy everyone's desires wrapping the series up.
What were your feelings when you first saw the cover of your finished book?
Oh la la! Lucky me!
Do you have any strange writing habits?
I challenge myself to writing word counts. How many words can I write in a day…
If you didn’t like writing books (Which you do), would would you see yourself doing for a living?
I really have no idea. Work in an animal shelter maybe.
Do you have any favorite conferences you attend? What are they?
RT Booklovers convention is one I often go to. Lore Leigh’s RAW also.
Fun Facts Questions:

If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Able to rescue kittens in a single bound! Actually I might like invisibility.
what secret talents do you have?
I’m a geek. I love to play video games :)
Where is one place you would like to visit that you haven't been before?
Australia or New Zealand
What is something you hope to accomplish before you die?
I already did it. I got published. That was my main goal in life :)
If you could have any accent for anywhere in the world, what would you choose?
Italian. I’m Italian American so I think it would be a good fit.
