Denise K. Rago - Blood Tears - Book Review, Author Interview, Book Giveaway

Amanda knew she had to track down Christian after he so gallantly saved her from his fellow vampire Gaetan. Having done so, she is now his mortal lover and will not leave his side.

But that is exactly what she'll have to do when Christian decides to return to Paris. He informs her of his plans and leaves the vampire Michel, his most trusted comrade, behind to watch after her in Manhattan.

What she doesn't yet know is she's carrying a child, and that the father is either Gaetan or Christian.

Christian finds Paris rife with secrets, rich secrets including past love affairs that have the power to destroy his life. These secrets had been safely hidden-until now.

While Christian is in Paris, word of Amanda's pregnancy gets out, and she is hunted by a vampire order that believes her child could be the one foretold by a prophecy.

Can Christian discover the answers he needs in time to save Amanda?

As enticing as her first book, "Blood Tears" is Denise K. Rago's latest novel in her ongoing chronicle of the vampire Christian Du Maure.

Review

I loved Immortal Obsession by Denise K. Rago, and this follow up has me in love again. Completely mind-blowing how she improves on the pervious book, when it was already top rated. This one leaves you begging for the next installment. The French vampires go on to show us even more background on Christian, a paternity question, a new lover & past lover. I Love how well the POV is blended. More refreshing then annoying, to see the story play out for the characters. The characters are well thought out, very complex, and so is their romance. The Plot & Pace… what can I say, you’re so not putting this one down. Suggest you start it when you have time to sit. I don’t think there was a part of this book I didn’t like & it is taking all of my will power not to spoil the story. It is absolutely brilliant and I will be adding this to my recommended reads ASAP.

Author Interview

I am so happy to be back here. I love this website and I am glad you are up and running again! Thank you for the honor of an interview and for reviewing my second novel, Blood Tears. I am always happy to answer any questions about my novels and my experiences as a writer.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a writer, parent, reader, blogger and I have worked for the past 25 years in a private, non-profits school for children with special needs. I love my husband, art, museums, the French Revolution, anything paranormal and my wonderful stepsons.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

What inspired you to write your first book? I have always loved to read and write with a dream of publishing my own novels one day. I also have always loved the paranormal especially vampires and werewolves.

How do you develop your plots and characters?

Do you use any set formula? I never use a set formula and I generally wait for my characters to speak to me. I write down their interactions and to be honest with you, I may have a few plot points or experiences that a character has to have but I am not always sure how to get there. I write intuitively and I am not always sure how the story will go. Once I have about half of my book written I set about outlining chapters on an excel spreadsheet so I can reference characters and places a bit easier.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Yes, it is keeping tabs on all of my characters. I keep a binder with time lines and biographies on all of my main characters. Since my books travel back and forth in time between present day New York, Paris and eighteenth century France, I keep a double set of dates and places for each of them.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

There are so many but Elly Griffiths, Sharon Bolton and Ronald Malfi are just a few who fall into the “I-will-read-whatever-they- publish” category.

How did you come up with a story that was such a whirlwind of events?

I tend to read fast-paced stories and for some reason, Blood Tears needed to move at a faster pace than my first novel, Immortal Obsession. I love page-turners and so I wanted to write a novel I would love to read.

Will we be seeing a following book to these stories?

Oh yes. My current project is titled Eternal Hunger and it picks up shortly after the ending of Blood Tears. I am not sure what will happen when I finish my current book. I may continue with the series or try something different.

How did you come up with the main character?

The inspiration for vampire Christian Du Mauré came to me in an otherworldly encounter with a stranger in a restaurant in New York City. I have written at length about this encounter and the impact the experience has had on my writing and my life in general. Though I have always believed in reincarnation, I now have no doubts and I truly understand how the power of love can sustain us through lifetimes.

I always must ask that if you could pick an actor to portray your two main characters on the big screen who would it be and why?

Vampire Christian Du Mauré would definitely be played by Michael Pitt. He is tall, blond haired and brooding like Christian and when I imagine Amanda Perretti I think of the actress Camilla Bell. She is dark haired and exotically beautiful all while appearing fragile.

If you didn’t like writing books (which you do), what would you see yourself doing for a living?

As I mentioned earlier in my interview, writing is a very rich and rewarding a part of my life, however, I do work full-time in a private school for children with special needs. I admire anyone who works in education or social services. Here where I work I feel a part of something much greater than myself. If I could turn back the clock and have a do-over, I think I would have become a special education teacher or a psychologist.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I would love to be able to read minds.

What secret talents do you have?

I have been told on more than one occasion I have an eye for decorating and I love going on house tours and looking at interior design magazines. I did take a few courses in New York City but I never pursued a career in Interior Design. I do love it, perhaps because it is creative and I have a lot of creative energy.

Where is one place you would like to visit that you haven't been before?

Israel.

What is something you hope to accomplish before you die?

I would love to spend a summer traveling and hiking through the Scottish Highlands and staying in a cottage on Loch Ness. I have been to Scotland once before and I loved it. I vowed to return but have yet to do so.

If you could have an accent from anywhere in the world, what would you choose?

France definitely.
