But all that changed when her mother decided to leave her dad for Pete, the Tae Kwon do instructor. And now Hope had to choose between staying where she belonged or moving far away to Cherry California with her dad.
After making the choice to move far away, to protect her father, Hope realizes Cherry is nothing like the hometown she’s used to. Everyone is rude, high class and she doesn’t fit in. Not until Slade comes along. He has never fit in and he is okay with that. And Hope is fascinated by everything that Slade is. All the way down to his tattoos and bat wielding rescue the first time they meet.
She knows she should stay far away from him, but it proves tricky as she discovers dark secrets about the town and people in Cherry, California. Hope doesn’t know who to trust as her life takes a turn from ordinary and depressing to dangerous and wild.
My Review:
Ink was one of those books that I just didn't want to walk away from! Hope is 17 years old and her parents are getting a divorce. She decides that someone needs to take care of her father. So, she went with him and her twin brothers from Georgia to Cherry California. She leaves behind her home and everything she has ever know...including her best friend.
Most of the people in Cherry California lead a privileged lifestyle. And as she soon finds out, she just doesn't fit in.
As she wanders around her new home, she discovers an outside concert going on at the beach nearby. So, she goes to investigate. This is where she meets Slade. He looks like trouble with all his tatoos and piercings. Not to mention his dark personality, his tough demeanor, and his mysterious nature.
Hope is also introduced to some other kids at her school. She made a few friends but nothing takes away the sting of being so far away from her best friend. She also meets Tucker. He is charming and handsome and seems to be an all around good guy. A guy that any parent would be happy to see dating their daughter.
There are SO many things that happen in this book! The story kept me on the edge of my seat! I would say it is a captivating love triangle. I was torn for a while on who I thought Hope should be with and who she should stay away from. Holly Hood truly fed me the emotions and the angst that Hope was feeling! I kept wanting her to make up her mind....but then again, I couldn't make up MY mind! My head was whirling while I was trying to figure things out! And each time I thought I was heading in the right direction, I was yanked into another direction. There are SO many twists and turns, you'll feel like you've been on a spellbinding, magical and amazing adventure!
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a wife and mother. I have three amazing children and one of the best husbands out there. I am obsessed with music. I love reality television. I am horribly sarcastic most days. And I like to think I am kind of funny, I love to laugh. And it doesn't take a whole lot to keep me entertained. I enjoy the simple things in life, like watching a movie, having a cook out or taking a walk in a park. Anything that lets me spend time with my family and friends is a perfect time to me.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I am not sure where it came from. I was always the kid that loved reading. I’ve always had this vivid imagination and I think reading books fueled my own. They made me want to give it a shot myself.

Which authors influenced you before you became an author yourself?
First author for sure would be Jerry Spinelli. I was in third grade when I read his book and I absolutely loved the style and how moving the story was.
Some other influences before I became an author were Edgar Alan Poe, Jim Carroll, even Shakespeare. I loved the beauty of their work. It was all so haunting.
What do you do to prepare yourself for writing? Do you have any routines you follow or listen to certain music for inspiration?

What do you do to prepare yourself for writing? Do you have any routines you follow or listen to certain music for inspiration?
I listen to music when I write. It helps get in the moment. And then I turn the music off to read over the chapter. If I get stuck I make myself map out the chapters to come and that usually pulls me from my rut. I also have a character page for every book. An image of the characters helps me really envision their ways.

Cherry California is a dangerous place to live, but not many know it. Hope will soon find out, a mysterious boy, dark secrets. It's magic.
Could you tell us a little about your favorite scene in the book?
My favorite scene is the moment when Hope meets Slade in Henry Park. When she is more frightened then attracted to him. Tattoos, a piercing and a bat, it’s easy to see why she wants to run away. I love the straightforward way he treats her. It’s the moment where you just need to know more about this guy.
How did you come up with the character Slade?
I wanted a bad boy love interest, but he had to be distinctive. And so I thought about some of my favorite singers and used their style to achieve that. I knew I wanted the love interest to be dark and mysterious. The kind of person you want to run from, but once you get to know them you see that’s nothing like who they really are.
How did you feel the first time you saw your beautiful cover for your finished book?
Excited. It captured Ink entirely. I think once you read the book you really understand how perfect it is.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I would like to say thank you to everyone and that I hope you all enjoy the book if you read it. It’s been fun!

Sounds like a fun read. Your main character has a lot of heart in her and to leave for somewhere new just to take care of her father is amazing. Can't wait to read the interesting choices and decisions that play out in your novel.
