Kari Pearce lives the life of a lone werewolf. No one knows of her affliction, not even her sister. When she hears of a missing child up in the Sequoias, Kari goes on the hunt to find the child and her abductor before tragedy can occur. Saving the child is easy, avoiding the FBI agent associated with the case is not.
Agent Nick Murdock knows he's seen Kari before, but damn if he can remember where. There's one thing he knows for sure. Kari Pearce, with her blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, is hiding something. And Nick is going to find out what.

My Review:

There is quite a bit of story packed into this little novella!
Kari is a private investigator who found a way to use her werewolf senses and abilities for the greater good. But it's not easy keeping the fact that your a werewolf a secret. So she has to be very careful. And a relationship, well that's just impossible. Until she meets Nick.
Nick is an FBI agent who was working the case of a would be child molester when he met Kari. She sparked his interest as soon as he saw her. He definitely has a Alpha male side to him *YUM* ;) And he wants to know everything there is to know about Kari. They start to get to know each other and there are some nice and spicy moments ;) Nick realizes that there is something different about Kari, and he is determined to find out what it is because it is this secret that seems to be driving her away from him.
I truly enjoyed reading this story. The characters were easy to adore. The romance was hot and the story moved along at a nice pace. If you're looking for a fun, quick read, you won't be disappointed with Soul Mate!

Author Interview:

Catherine: Thank you for having me here today.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Cliff note version of Catherine Bybee: I'm a wife, a mother, a reader, a writer, a wine drinker. I've fallen into more than one multi-level marketing gig mainly because I love the products sold in these types of things but can justify the expensive of them. I'm cheep that way. I do like getting things for free, but will never download a book from a pirate site. I'm a PTA mom, but can't stand most of the PTA moms I know. *oh, the stories I could tell* Oh, and… when I do work (which I'm not right now) I'm a Emergency Room RN. *oh, the stories I could tell* Good thing I'm a writer, right?

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I have loved to read and escape into books since I was a tween. Before the word tween came about. So many heroines were TSTL, you know, too stupid to live! They went down into the scary basement knowing damn well a monster wanted to lick their boobies and not in a fantasy way, yet they went anyway. UGH. I figured if I wrote the book, the heroines could have a brain and still get the guy.

What surprised you the most about the writing/publishing process?

How long it takes to hear back from publishers, editors… We live in an instant world and waiting for a snail mail reply isn't something I expected in this century.

How do you develop your plots and characters? Do you use any set formula?

No formula at all. I will usually think of an opening scene and my main characters and their motivations… then just start writing. I'm what the industry calls a pantser. I write by the seat of my pants, which seem to be getting bigger these days. I really should work on that. Anyone wanna join me at the gym?

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?

The plot needs to come together, the characters need to be believable, and the reader has to care about what's happening next. If the author has engaged me as a reader, I won't notice a misspelling or a damn, comma, in, the, wrong, place. Which, for the record, I'm known to screw up occasionally. This is such a subjective industry. What I love you may hate. I know people who will put a book down at the first grammar error, even if they need a dictionary on hand to understand a sentence. Blah. I don't want to work when I'm reading. Therefore, a good writer makes me forget about what's happening in my personal life and makes me turn pages. I may only rate a book a 3, but if I kept turning pages, then the author did something right.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I am currently finishing my 1st draft of Highland Shifter. This is the 4th book in my time travel series featuring Simon. When I finished my trilogy, Binding Vows, Silent Vows, and Redeeming Vows, I knew I wanted to write a three more books. This series generated a bunch of fan mail for me and motivated me to get started. Fans of this series are going to love what I have in store for these books. They are time travel, they feature highlanders… and all with magical powers. Starting with a shifter.

In Twitter Fashion use140 characters or less, sum up Soul Mate for us.

How did you come up with this story? And what was your inspiration?

My family and I spend a lot of time in our RV. If you follow me on twitter, you know this isn't always a great time for me! LOL - Still, one weekend we were fighting, I mean camping, up in the Sequoias and a full moon snuck up over the trees. The opening scene for Kari and Nick's story unfolded in my head.

How long did it take you to write it, and did you have any writer’s block along the way?

Because this is a novella, it didn't take me long to write, a couple of weeks. I don't really experience writer's block. If something isn't working in my writing I usually stumble upon it within a chapter or two and then go back to fix the problem.

Will we be seeing a following book to this story?

I'm not sure. I've considered writing Dee's story. That would be Kari's sister. But my list of WIP's is growing long. I have a couple of contemporaries coming out, my time travels and a whole new paranormal series I'm editing.

How did you come up with the character Kari?

This book is dedicated to a school friend of mine, Kari (last name omitted) who carries a 9mm on her hip in her 'detective-like' day job. She isn't a shifter… In case you thought maybe I knew something the universe didn't.

I always must ask, If you could pick one actor to portray Nick Murdock on the big screen who would it be and why?

Oh, that's hard. A younger George Clooney would work, or even young Harrison Ford. Can you tell I'm over 40?

Was there anything you find particularly challenging when writing this book?

Not really.

What were your feelings when you first saw the cover of your finished book?

Rae Monet is a cover-goddess. And Jimmy Thomas… what's not to love about him on my covers? Yum!
