Erin Kellison - Giveaway & Guest Post

GHOSTS

They haunt the halls of the Segue Institute, terrifying the living, refusing to cross over. But one soul is driven by a very different force.
LOVE

It survives even death. And Kathleen O'Brien swore she would return to those she was forced to leave too soon.
SHADOWMAN

He broke every rule to have her in life; now he will defy the angels to find her in death.

THE GATE

Forging it is his single hope of being reunited with his beloved, but through it an abomination enters the world. Leaving a trail of blood and violence, the devil hunts her too. Pursued through realms of bright fantasy and dark reality, Kathleen is about to be taken. . .

FATE

First of all, a big thank you to Melissa and Werevamps Romance for hosting me here today. And thank you also to readers for stopping by. I’m giving away a set of my Shadow books, Shadow Bound, Shadow Fall, and Shadowman, to a lucky commenter who answers the question below.

Fate is a major theme I have personified in my September release, Shadowman. I named her Moira, for Fate in Greek mythology, and she is stark raving mad because her existence is constrained by the role she plays. She is unchanging, while humanity sparks in and out of life. She is fae and belongs in faery Twilight, like my hero, Shadowman, whose role for all time as been the Grim Reaper, aka Death.

Here she is at work:

A shimmer of dark faelight broke over the dun of the street, visible only to him. A glittering sleeve, a sweep of glossy gold fae hair, the twinkle of madness in an eye. Moira. Fate leered toward him, girlish and laughing. Moira had three faces, but she preferred the young one best. She leaned with her sharp scissors toward the woman’s lifeline. Death caught the glint of the silvery blade as the mortal’s lifeline was cut, her thread in the tapestry of the world at its ragged end.

It happened to everyone.
The big difference between Moira and Shadowman is that he has fallen in love and no longer wants to be limited to his duty when he has known and been awed by a connection he never thought possible. Moira is already mad, beyond helping. Shadowman is on the verge of it because the lifeline Moira cut (above) is none other than Shadowman’s love, Kathleen. He lost her once, and he is going to lose her again. It’s fated that they will never be together.

The cold, wild tendrils claimed him again, and he became the Reaper, a shadow-fae consciousness wrapped in darkness. Instantly, the keening of his scythe filled him, the curved blade a hated extension of himself, paining him like a ghost limb.

“So lift the blade again,” a soft voice said.

Moira. He didn’t look upon the lie of her lovely face. The long fall of gold hair, the youth shining from her sunny skin, eyes that matched the Earth’s blue sky. Of her three faces, this countenance promised life and health, but her nature was age-old and rotten with it. Fate.

“It is your nature, Stormcrow,” she said. He had as many names as he had faces. He preferred the one that Kathleen had chosen: Shadowman. Moira shook her head. “And nature always prevails.”

Shadowman smiled to match the sharp flash of her gaze. There was no going back, not now, not ever. The world was different… and so was he. But Moira had been trapped in darkness age upon age. She couldn’t possibly understand, but he tried anyway. “I want to change.”

Moira laughed. “But you are fae.”

My characters fight Fate with everything they have, but she is a force, like Death, that seems insurmountable. Moira is one crazy witch to boot.

My question for readers today is do you believe in Fate? Why and why not?

Yes, I do. 100% Even when the good stuff in life is nudged aside to make way for a bout of not so good, I still believe it's occurrence has purpose. Everything that happens throughout our lives moulds into the person we become. Great question & thanks for the giveaway.

Yes, I do. I believe we can make some choices but our primary routes and the people we travel with in life are predetermined. Your book sounds really good. Thanks for the giveaway!

I do believe in fate, but also free will. A certain amount of our lives can be changed by our choices.

not so sure. I believe we control mor than we think. You can set yourself on a certain course (or fate), but you can change that too.

I am reading Shadow Bound right now and the scenes with Shadowman are my favorites. so vividly beautiful .

don't enter me, I already have copies, just wanted to stop by and let people know this series is worth the read :)

I do believe in fate. Things happen for a reason, and that reason is fate. Sure, we might be able to make some decisions and alter the path our lives take, but I believe that the major things that happen would have happened regardless.

I do believe in fate..to a point. I believe we are predestined to do some things. But I also believe we have a little control over what happens to us, at least in the pathway to reach the "goal".

I most definately believe in fate. I believe my life was predestined for a lot of the paths I have taken, but I also believe that I have the free will to choose that path or go on another. Most of the time I do let fate take over, just because my decisions sometimes are not the best for me.

I believe in fate and a predetermined end point, but I feel that how one gets to that point, the twists and turns taken with free will is what makes life worth living.

Call it coincidence, destiny, or fate--in one moment, lives collide and change forever. You're taken down another road where your destiny awaits. This is not to say we don't have free will to choose the path. Hopefully, we choose wisely. :) Great question. I enjoyed the post and would love to be entered in the drawing.

Yes, I do believe in fate. It has saved me (IMO) several times. i.e.; Getting up trying to make an appointment, running around to get out of the house, just to get stuck by a freight train, get through that and then get the news my commuter train will be late. It took a while, but I realized I wasn't meant to be somewhere at a certain time. That's just one example, but I believe that it happens all the time. I'm a firm believer in 'what's meant to be, will be', even when I don't necessarily agree with it at the time;-)
You're a new author for me, I've just added more books to my TBR pile:-) Thanks for a chance to win.

I think that some things happen for a reason, but I don't believe there's any absolute, unavoidable fate. A single tiny decision or act can have a huge ripple effect that changes the course of events for the future.

I believe that some things are meant to happen. Too many times in my life something has come along and it just fit. A person I needed in my life, an opportunity, etc. I also believe that the people who touch our lives are there for a reason and sometimes we touch someone else without even realizing how important our action or words were. Just my 2 cents.

Sure, I believe in it... but only in fiction. LOL

It's nice and romantic to think that fate is possible, but since it's not very tangible, it's hard to believe something happen because of it.

I am a firm believer in the idea of Fate. However, while I believe that we each enter this world with our fate predetermined, I also believe that prayer is the only thing that can change fate.

My belief in fate has strengthened over the years as I've witnessed the wisdom and greater plan behind each occurrence in my life. Even when something bad happens, I believe that it's an opportunity for me to strengthen myself by learning from the experience and growing.

There have been many occasions during which I've tried so hard to make something happen or force a situation to head in a certain direction but all my efforts were futile. However, I often found that when things did eventually work out, they worked out a lot better than I could have ever expected.

I know that many people see a belief in fate as being an excuse to adopt a passive stance in certain matters, but I strongly believe that God has a plan for everyone and sometimes, we've just got to do the best we can in life and then sit back and watch what happens.

Thanks for the giveaway:)

They say that there is a grain of truth to everything. Why not fate? For this reason, I believe in it. Who says that there isn't some type of divine intervention, (fate) out there helping guide us in our lives? It sure would be nice to know that there is some type of fate helping us along.

I honestly don't know if I believe in fate, I mean so many things have happened in my life that might have made a lesser person a little crazy.

I guess in a way that I do sort of believe because of certain events in my life, I think fate might have intervened a little.

I'm also a decent believer in the fact that we can change our own fate or destiny, fate can be very helpful but it can also be an unbelievable opponent!

So yes I guess I sort of do believe in fate... a little.

I love the warm, fuzzy, comfortable feeling I get when reading about fate, but do not believe that fate is part of my world. There is a bit too much chaos, random variables that tend to bring a lack of order to my life.

Yes, I believe in Fate. I believe that everything happens for a reason. One thing taht happened to me:

I had a dream to work at a big international law firm. Passed the first 2 rounds of interviews but at the 3rd a woman who wasn’t even on the hiring department and just filling in took a personal dislike to me and vetoed my hiring. I started looking at other law firms and that’s how I ended up at a much more famous and well known law firm where I had a great time, learned a lot and liked my colleagues. If I was hired at my first choice I never would have started my career in such a great way as I did this way :-)

Thank you for the giveaay!
