Jennifer Lyon - Character Guest Post, Book Giveaway

PhotobucketSinful Magic (Wing Slayer Hunters #4)

Roxanne “Roxy” Banfield refuses to be like her mother, a fertility witch who uses sex as nothing more than a magical weapon. Roxy rejects that life and is determined to become mortal to pursue her dream of real love and a family. All she has to do is avoid meeting the one man whose sensuality can release her powers. But steering clear of this magnetic stranger is easier said than done.

Wing Slayer Hunter Kieran “Key” DeMicca channels the dark violence that lives inside him into a popular comic book series about an ancient dragon named Dyfyr, but only Key knows that Dyfyr is real. Lately he finds himself drawing images of a young woman in peril, and assumes that she’s just a product of his imagination—until he meets Roxy. Struck by her beauty and her resemblance to his sketches, he feels compelled to protect her. As steamy magic, lethal danger, and timeless love collide, Roxy must become what she swore she would never be—and awake a part of Key that will threaten to destroy them both.

Character Guest Post

Hi, I’m Key DeMicca, the reluctant hero in Jennifer Lyon’s latest Wing Slayer Hunter book, SINFUL MAGIC. When Lyon first said I was going to be the hero, I told her I am too dark, too dangerous and I refuse to subject any woman or witch to that. In short, I am unredeemable and can’t be a hero.

But try telling Lyon no…seriously, the woman doesn’t listen.
In fact, she got that strange gleam in her eye and I knew I was toast. Word of advice—never tell Lyon that she can’t do something. She takes it as a challenge.

Then she makes you pay. In blood, in sweat, in tears. She rips your heart out of your chest and squeezes while you watch helplessly. And then, just when she has completely destroyed you, she gives you the greatest gift—a soul mirror. The single witch who will meld her soul with yours and sear you with an eternal love so profound it will mark your soul.

See what I mean? The woman is twisted. And devious—she trapped me into her story. Here’s how she did it:

Before SINFUL MAGIC, my driving passion was drawing and I created Dyfyr, the Dragon of Vengeance comic book series. Dyfyr is an ancient and extremely powerful creature who is not constrained by human morality. What may surprise you is that Dyfyr is real, he slumbers within me and I draw to drain off the dragon’s lingering rage. And yeah, sometimes I get caught up in a frenzy of drawing so intense nothing can stop me.

Lyon knows all that. So what does she do? She puts in a hotel room in Las Vegas, drops a vivid image in my head and fires up the compulsion to draw. Caught up in a wild need to capture the image burning inside me, I shoved aside furniture and got to work on the only canvas available—the wall. I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t breathe until all the sultry and beautiful lines formed on that wall, revealing the heroine of the book, Roxy Banfield. I knew the woman existed somewhere, but maybe I could have resisted the urge to find her.

But I couldn’t stop drawing, and mere minutes later, I saw the danger Roxy was in. Real, vivid, blood-red danger and I had to stop it! I had to save her…

Just like that, Lyon forced me into the role of reluctant hero.

I had no choice, I tracked down Roxy. When I saw her in person, my entire body twanged with a possessive recognition so strong it roused the slumbering dragon. Only problem? Roxy wanted nothing to do with me. Seems I had a similar effect on her, releasing the magic in her that she was desperate to repress. Roxy is a fertility witch and her power is based in sex. All Roxy had ever wanted was for her magic to die off so she could become mortal. Her magic would only Awaken when she found the right man.

I was that man, and that made me the wrong man. The one man in the entire universe she had to avoid.

But it didn’t matter because Roxy was thrust dead center into a vicious plot. I couldn’t leave her alone. She needed me.

And both Dyfyr and I needed her, deeply and desperately.

There was only one way, one chance, of winning against the forces trying to destroy us. With rare courage, Roxy sacrificed her dreams to embrace her magic and, in the process, she exposed her true soul: A witch and woman so special, she captured the hearts of a dragon and a man. I am that man, the right man, the only man for Roxy.

But that darkness inside of me I told you about earlier? It exploded and threatened Roxy just as I told Lyon it would. I knew it would happen, I told her!

In those agonizing seconds, I went from reluctant to willing hero. Both Dyfyr and I were desperate to save Roxy.

Did we succeed? Well the only clue I’ll give you is this: I’ve forgiven Jen Lyon for what she put us through. Because in the end, I got the greatest gift of all.

My beloved Roxy.

Usually authors say the characters forced their way out. I am so glad to here that sometimes authors wrestle the characters onto paper. Funny!
