Callie Norse - Author Interview, Excerpt, Character Guest Post

PhotobucketGreg and Lisa Carrington's lives have been blessed with successful careers, a loving relationship and a beautiful young daughter. Although, when the Carrington family move into their Victorian dream home, everything changes—and not for the better.

When Lisa becomes ill, she leaves a wish with her sister, should she die. The wish is unthinkable. Has she asked too much?

During Lisa's illness, Greg discovers some mysterious occurrences. He keeps this phenomenon a secret, not wanting to worry Lisa. Over a period of time, he begins to fear the house must be haunted, as he and his family are subjected to more and more terrifying occurrences.

Their young daughter becomes obsessed with the sewing room. She reads aloud, sings, and talks to presence only she can see.

Finally, Greg decides he must sell the house. Before he can do so, a horror beyond imagination shakes the lives of everyone associated with Lisa and the house.

Excerpt from For the Love of Lisa

Greg noticed Lisa yawning. Her nap obviously had been too short. The three of them lay on the floor, in front of the fireplace, just as they had the night before. The fireplace was comforting in the storm. Maggie babbled on about this and that until the lights would flicker¾each time, she drew her small body closer to Lisa. Lisa fell asleep long before Maggie. Greg again carried Maggie upstairs and put her into bed. He returned to find Lisa still fast asleep—no wine on the mantel. Greg so desired the romance they had shared the night before. He reached for a throw on the arm of the sofa, lay down beside Lisa and drew the blanket up over them. He lay there thinking how much Lisa meant to him and how much her love for him meant. They were so fortunate to have found their true love the first time around. Many couples never find it.

Greg missed her. His desires were strong, although he wouldn’t wake her. He knew she was exhausted. The move had been more stressful for her than he had known. They would sleep there until she awoke.

When Morning came, Greg began to get uncomfortable on the floor. He got up, leaving Lisa still sleeping soundly and went to shower and change. He then began searching for the waffle iron and the waffle/pancake mix. He soon found them and began making breakfast.

The smell of coffee and waffles began filtering into the parlor, waking Lisa. She strolled out to the kitchen and wrapped her arms around Greg’s neck, “What a wonderful aroma to wake up to. Thank you, honey.” He drew her close. Their lips met in a kiss. As he pressed his body to hers, she felt his thickening flesh. She regretted falling asleep so quickly. “After breakfast, Maggie will be busy waking up all her dollies and feeding them breakfast,” she whispered.

“I was thinking the same thing,” Greg winked. “Our breakfast is ready now.” They sat quietly talking, making plans for the day. One thing certainly seemed to be planned out before the first bite of waffle!

Maggie came traipsing into the kitchen, her face bright and cheery. “Did you leave any for me?” Greg got up from the table and took a glass of orange juice out of the refrigerator and put more batter in the waffle iron. She downed the juice and helped herself to the sausage on the table. As she swallowed the last bite, Greg put a waffle on the table in front of her. She talked about the dream she had. One of her babies had been crying. She assumed the storm had scared the baby. Greg and Lisa found this quite interesting.

They all went upstairs when Maggie was finished eating—Maggie to get out of her jammies and get dressed for the day and to tend to her babies. Lisa explained to her how she and Daddy had slept in front of the fireplace. Therefore, she needed to take a shower and change clothes.

Greg closed the bedroom door behind them. Finally, they were alone. Desires had been rising since before breakfast. Greg’s fingers couldn’t unbutton Lisa’s blouse fast enough. Her C-cup bra fell to the floor exposing her luscious breasts. In her excitement, Lisa ripped Greg’s shirt off¾a few buttons were now missing. He leaned her back onto the bed and removed her jeans and panties. Oh, the desires… His masculine hands gently and slowly moved over her, tracing the curves of her bottom, her hips, her breasts¾igniting in her a restless craving to get closer, to touch and be touched more intimately. There was little time, as Maggie would soon finish with her dollies. Greg’s belt buckle clanged as his jeans hit the hardwood floor. He lay down beside Lisa, holding her curvaceous body closely, drawing his thumbs across her nipples hardening them into tight little peaks, increasing desires….

Character Guest Post From Greg:

As Greg Carrington, in For the Love of Lisa, I am 28 yrs old, married to Lisa, a lovely lady inside and out. Many consider me to be handsome, but to me, I’m just me. I have dark brown hair, cut neatly across the nape of my neck, with a loose combed look on top. Lisa tells me what really attracted her to me in the beginning was how my deep brown eyes sparkled when I first spoke to her, and how my dimples became prominent when I smiled. She gets a bit carried away! She tells me what a wonderful personality I have. She claims I put other people’s needs above my own. I’m not so sure that is totally true. I do enjoy helping others when they need my help, but Lisa may be thinking more of how it is behind closed doors. I do aim to please in that department.

I love Lisa and my six-year-old daughter. They are my life. My family always comes first. I would rather be home with them, than anywhere else, with anyone else. Lisa is my best friend, with my brother-in-law as my best buddy. I’m not one to go out with the guys, or get drunk or do drugs, like so many. What alcohol I consume is usually at home with Lisa. We love to have a bit of wine in front of the fireplace, or in the Jacuzzi¾usually resulting in passionate love making.

We have moved into our dream home, an old Victorian home. I’m afraid it has been too much for Lisa. She is quite tired anymore. Naps don’t seem to help much. I have always gotten up early and prepared breakfast, so I let her sleep-in as much as possible. My work schedule as an accountant is quite flexible so I can feed Maggie and get her day rolling. I’ve taken some days off to plant a small garden. I love gardening, and love how Maggie is all bubbly helping me.

We all love lying in front of the fireplace evenings. When Maggie falls asleep, I carry her up to bed and return to Lisa, where she sometimes has wine waiting for me. We love making love on the floor with the flicker of the fireplace dancing across our nude bodies. Our love making can be quite adventurous. This is an important part of our lives. Maybe this is why our love continues to grow¾or we just generally enjoy being together. We never find a need for cross words. I think we have a special love like few ever find in a lifetime.

I am concerned that Lisa may be ill. I think she is secretly seeing a doctor. I’m also concerned our new home may be haunted. I have found a red sticky substance resembling blood that keeps reappearing after I clean it up. I also see streaks of light that I can’t account for. I worry we may have a spirit problem. I’m keeping my own secrets as I can’t worry Lisa when she isn’t feeling well.

Author Interview

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I'm married, and have three grown sons, and 5 grandchildren. I worked in banking for 7 years, then became a stay-at-home mom. I wrote short stories when the boys were young, never feeling I had time to write a book. I later used one of the short stories and transformed it into For the Love of Lisa. Greg was then Mark, Lisa was Lisa, and Maggie was Marissa. (Mark-Mar Lisa-issa) Then I discovered Marissa was a real name and it seemed to lose the special meaning, somehow. Marissa was quite young watching her mom fight a serious illness. Beyond that, the parallel ends.

I began my serious writing after my parents passed away 16 days apart. Saying Good-bye was never published. It is about the devastation of the loss of elderly parents when we are not prepared for it to be such.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

My eighth grade teacher required we write short stories. I realized then how much I enjoyed writing.

What surprised you the most about the writing/publishing process?

I was first amazed at the rules iuniverse gave for the use of commas with the Chicago Manual of Style. I went through my entire manuscript taking out most of the commas, which I had been taught were proper. Later, after reviewing books they had published and finding commas were placed more like I learned, I put most of them back in. Now I've decided whatever is necessary to read the book properly is the extent commas should be used. I try not to overdo it, as I have seen done.

Secondly, I was surprised at how boring and time consuming editing can be.

How do you develop your plots and characters? Do you use any set formula?

I don't have any set trick. I just use my imagination, set my fingers to the keyboard, and away we go! It amazes me what my keyboard thinks up. In this book I wasn't ready for the plot to take the turn it did, at that particular time. It just happened. I remember deleting a sentence and retyping it 3 times...deciding my keyboard was right.

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?

There are 2 very important elements. First, a great plot is needed. Secondly, one must have good format, good spelling and proper grammar and punctuation. If the first exists without the second, it won't fly!

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

My current work is the 2nd of this series, The Carrington Series, A Love Too Soon. It takes place approximately one and one-half years after For the Love of Lisa ends. This book has the same characters with the edition of a few.

In Twitter Fashion use 140 characters or less, sum For The Love Of Lisa for us.

A touching, heart-wrenching story of love, with mystery and paranormal happenings, in spirit form¾sure to intrigue to the twist at the end.

How did you come up with a story that was such a whirl wind of events?

It was the work of almighty imagination together with my fantastic keyboard

How long did it take you to write it, and did you have any writer’s block along the way?

I seriously don't remember. I was in the process of writing this in early summer of 2004 when a friend's illness paralleled with the book. It was too difficult to write, so I laid it up awhile. All in all, I know it was over a year, possibly more like 18 months. No writer's block...

Will we be seeing a following book to this stories?

Yes, of course! After For the Love of Lisa comes A Love Too Soon, then comes the 3rd in the series The Anniversary---not to be forgotten.

How did you come up with the character Greg?

Oh Greg...my sweet wonderful, Greg! .... Doesn't every woman have an idea of the perfect man in her head?

I always must ask, If you could pick one actress/actor to portray Lisa/Greg on the big screen who would it be and why?

For Lisa, I would chose Diane Lane, if they could make her up to look 27 yrs. old. I think she if fabulous. I dearly loved her in Nights in Rodanthe. She looks somewhat like I pictured Lisa as I was writing the book.

For Greg... he is more difficult. Possibly Brad Pitt with dk. brown hair styled like Greg's. My mental picture of Greg, is simply Greg, so it's difficult to say.

Photobucket

Was there anything you find particularly challenging when writing this book?

The research for Lisa's illness was extensive. I wanted it to be realistic, with the correct tests performed for her diagnosis.

What were your feelings when you first saw the cover of your finished book?

Pride, for what I had accomplished, not only for what I had written, but ... for having taken the photo myself, using a door in my home, and twigs and berries from a tree in my yard.

This book sounds like a good one but it sounds like it might be sad. I really hope it doesn't have a sad ending. I have found that I really don't like reading books that end too sadly.

I have not read too many stories like this one. I think the mystery behind it is somewhat interesting. I'm going to check this one out. Thanks for stopping by.
